What's online in Stages 1 and 2?

 

In the USydMP these first two years are taught essentially face to face on campus using the web to support small group learning, formal presentations, practical clinical sessions and a wide range of independent learning. Other delivery models may be possible using the same set of materials.

Problem-based Learning cases

67 Problem Based Learning (PBL) weeks, each with a comprehensive set of online case materials designed specifically to support small group learning:
  • Multi media (QuickTime) case triggers
  • Authentic patient reports and clinical images
  • Comprehensive patient data or record sheets
  • Single interface for the whole week's learning.
Learning Topics Over 450 expert written Learning Topics to help guide students' independent study. Each Learning Topic includes:
  • a one to two page overview of a basic and clinical science topic
  • a set of keywords
  • references and other resources
Lectures and other sessions Content outlines for around 14 basic and clinical science lectures and clinical skills sessions each week, including appropriate resources.
Online Assessment Over 2500 online assessment questions integrated with other weekly content to allow students to progressively self test their knowledge.
Evidence Based Medicine and other interactive learning activities Specially designed interactive learning activities to support learning in areas such as Evidence Based Medicine, Anatomy, Medical Humanties

Tutor Guide (MS Word download) Detailed "Tutor Guides" to assist PBL tutors in their role as small group learning facilitators.
Discussion forums Online student feedback discussion forums to help monitor and evaluate all aspects of course delivery

What's online in Stages 3 and 4?

 

In the USydMP these second two years are taught off campus in the clinical schools. The web is still used to support a core curriculum involving both small group learning, formal presentations and independent learning. Students in these stages can also access all the resources available in Stages 1 and 2.
