Woolcock Institute of Medical Research
The Woolcock Institute of Medical Research (formerly known as the Institute of Respiratory Medicine) was opened in 1985. It facilitates and coordinates research related to respiratory disease and sleep disorders at the University of Sydney, Royal Prince Alfred, Royal North Shore, Concord and Liverpool Hospitals.
The specific goals of the Woolcock are the generation of new ideas and publication of research results to expand knowledge, particularly in the fields of asthma, sleep disordered breathing, chronic obstructive lung disease, environmental respiratory problems, allergy and cystic fibrosis. The Institute has developed a network of collaborative research projects with other groups and institutions within and outside Australia.
As a centre for knowledge and research, the Woolcock provides an information and advisory service to governments, industry and the general community.
