Centre for Infectious Diseases and Microbiology
The CIDM was established in 1992 as a Centre of Excellence for the provision of clinical and laboratory services, and to offer internationally competitive educational and research programs, in infectious diseases and microbiology. In 2000, the Sydney University Academic Department in Sexually Transmitted Infections joined the Centre. The unit now comprises CIDM Clinical Services, CIDM Laboratory Services, CIDM Research Laboratories and the STI Research Centre.
Goals:
- To conduct relevant basic and applied research and translate the results into improvements in prevention, diagnosis and patient care
- To initiate and coordinate effective education programs in infectious and sexually transmissible diseases and microbiology
- To provide and promote a comprehensive reference centre and resource in clinical, epidemiological and laboratory aspects of infectious and sexually transmissible diseases and microbiology
