ANZAC Research Institute
The main theme of research at the ANZAC Research Institute is ageing, with the long-term goal of prolonging enjoyable, independent living for older people. As the only major independent biomedical research institute in NSW focusing on ageing, the Institute aims to co-ordinate high quality innovative research at all levels, ranging from public and population health to clinical research, and using transgenic models as well as cell and molecular biology.
ANZAC Research Institute was opened in late 2000 and provides dedicated research infrastructure and fosters high quality medical research. Situated at Concord Hospital, it hosts 6 major research groups studying andrology, biogerontology, bone biology, neurobiology, cancer pharmacology and vascular biology. In addition, two large epidemiological studies are also been undertaken concerning health issues in elderly men and Vietnam veterans. Each speciality is affiliated with a Concord Hospital department and has excellent access to collaborative research facilities in both clinical and public health. The Institute has full University academic status and access to all infrastructural facilities.
