Research interests
Professor Boyce completed his medical training in London before coming to Australia in the mid seventies to complete his psychiatric training. He studied psychotherapy while in Adelaide and undertook the Diploma in Psychotherapy from Adelaide University. He has over 100 articles and book chapters and as the recipient of 10 NH&MRC Grants. He is currently the Head of the Department of Psychological Medicine at the University of Sydney. He is also President Elect of the RANZCP and the President of the Marcé Society.
He has been involved in research into postnatal depression for the past 15 years. His research was initially into identifying risk factors to postnatal depression, especially the role of personality style. His research has also involved health services research and the outcomes for women with postnatal depression. Currently he is working on defining subtypes of postnatal depression, development of a brief intervention for women with postnatal depression and the impact of postnatal depression and its risk factors on infant development. In collaboration with Professor Nicholas Talley, he is conducting research into functional bowel disorders.
