Bequest to Bone and Joint Research Institute

Kurt Neubauer

Kurt Neubauer, a Czechoslovakian born Holocaust survivor, who passed away in late 2004, has made a substantial bequest to the Institute of Bone and Joint Research, University of Sydney at Royal North Shore Hospital. Mr Neubauer migrated to Australia with his wife Rose after World War II.

The bequest has allowed the establishment of an Education Fellowship in the Department of Rheumatology at Royal North Shore Hospital. “This new funding source has given us the opportunity to develop interactive educational programs about arthritis”, Professor Les Schrieber, a spokesman for the Institute, said. “Funding many of the Institute's arthritis education programs has previously depended on the pharmaceutical industry; however these sources have now dried up. Without the bequest many of the Institute's educational programs would have folded.” These educational programs are targeted at medical students, junior hospital doctors, general practitioners as well as the public. It is hoped to extend the program to rural sites.
