Honours

At the University of Sydney students in the USydMP have access to world leading researchers in the basic and clinical sciences. All students are encouraged to undertake research of some sort and one way is via participation in the Honours Program. This program enables students to carry out a research project in any of the University Departments, Clinical Schools (including the rural schools) and Research Institutes. As a result topics that can be researched are extremely varied, including:

  • Basic science in areas such as physiology, pharmacology, genetics, cell biology
  • Medical education
  • Epidemiological studies
  • Public Health issues
  • Rural health issues
  • Medical ethics

There are two components to the Honours Program:

  1. the research task, and
  2. a clinical assessment task

Students can enrol in the Honours Program from the end of Stage 1 and must submit a report on their Research project by July of Stage 4. The clinical assessment task, held at the end of Stage 4, is in the form of an oral patient-based clinical exam, and includes community and population issues and professional and ethical issues.
