Up to two University of Sydney students may be nominated for elective clinical placements at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. The best months for these are January and February and placements are usually for up to eight weeks duration (two four week specialty attachments). McMaster have recently limited the number of elective placements offered and will only accept those students nominated under this scheme. Additional placements will not be possible and students should not contact McMaster directly.

The next round of placements for December 2008-February 2009 will be advertised early in 2008 via a bulletin. It will be open to all students regardless of clinical school and country of origin.

Tuition fees are waived under the agreement. Travel and living expenses must be borne by students and students will need to find their own accommodation.

Incoming McMaster University students to University of Sydney in 2007-2008

The University of Sydney is a new partner in the McMaster elective exchange program. During 2007, the University of Sydney hosted McMaster student Kaitlin Link in an Emergency Medicine placement at Western Clinical School.

Students interested in a particular sub-speciality should indicate their preferences via the McMaster Electives Program Office and every attempt will be made to accommodate these. If a particular hospital or location is preferred this should be indicated and we will try to find a placement to suit your needs.
