MBBS-specific information

The following are requirements for participation in the University of Sydney Medical Program and will become relevant once students have fulfilled the requirements of the first three years of the Combined Program.

Clinical schools
Contact with patients and observation of the physical aspects of disease commence in the first year of the MBBS and continue to final year. Allocation to one of the four main teaching hospitals for the clinical components of the Medical Program will not be made until students have fulfilled the requirements of the first three years of the Combined Program.

* Personal health
Applicants need to be aware of their personal health status, including that in relation to immunisation and infectious diseases, and the NSW Department of Health guidelines concerning the undertaking of "exposure-prone procedures". Please note it is applicants' responsibility to be familiar and adhere to these requirements. The Medical Program is both physically and mentally demanding, thus an applicant's personal health is a factor to be considered when deciding to accept a place in the program.

* First Aid Certificate
Students participating in the University of Sydney Medical Program must provide evidence that they hold a current approved Senior First Aid Certificate at commencement of study.

* Police checks
Medical students are required to fill out a Criminal Records Check Consent Form prior to commencement of their medical studies. No fee is required. Medical students must also complete a Prohibited Persons Declaration as required by the NSW Child Protection Act.

* Special consideration
In the interest of equity and fairness to all applicants, those applicants who do not meet the required UAI or equivalent will not be considered for admission to the Combined Medicine degree. The UAI or equivalent requirement shall apply, regardless of circumstances such as illness, misadventure or disadvantage during the test.
