Nepean Clinical School

Location

Nepean Hospital in Kingswood, is the newest major teaching hospital of the University of Sydney. It is a major referral facility and provides clinical services in most medical disciplines and sub-specialities to the people of Penrith, Hawkesbury and Blue Mountains.

Getting there

Nepean Hospital is conveniently located at five minutes walking distance from Kingswood train station. When getting off a train from the city turn right at the station exit and the hospital can be found on your left after 300m or so.

Student facilities

  • 24hr computer access with ethernet access to the internet.
  • Student common room with:
    - Tea and coffee facilities
    - Pool table
    - Table tennis table
    - TV, video and lounge
  • Study rooms with whiteboards and computer access.
  • Medical library with books that are shared by the ‘smaller’ community of scholars at the hospital (as compared to larger hospitals) – hence access to common medical textbooks is often pleasantly unimpeded.
  • Mountains – we are surround by them, they are beautiful.

Accommodation is available for 3rd and 4th Year students attached to the Western Clinical School (and Nepean students in particular). Accommodation consists of a small room furnished with a bed, desk, built-in wardrobe, bed light, heater and power source. Male and female toilets and bathrooms are separate and communal. There is a shared kitchen with refrigerators per floor (approximately 20 students to a floor, but this is only when the sleeping quarters are fully populated). Finally a laundry room contains both washing machine and tumble-driers.

The place is very clean and the walls are littered with wonderful pieces of art worthy of a curator courtesy of a fine lady who looks over the place and tries consistently to makes it feel more homely for the student residents.

Our strengths

Close your eyes, imagine sharing patients with no than more than 3-5 colleagues, imagine that these patients aren’t painfully exposed to a plethora of needy students; furthermore, envisage such patients being understandably more approachable. Now turn your mind’s eye to your tutor who knows not only your name, but is aware of how your progressing along with your clinical skills training.

Meander for a bit down spotless corridors, take time to exchange a few pleasantries with familiar faces in a smallish hospital. Now open your eyes, step through the sliding door entrance near Derby street, squint a bit at the afternoon sun and notice for a quiet moment the mountains that litter the horizon as you head off home.

Welcome to Nepean Hospital.
