Western Clinical School
Location
The Western Clinical School is based in the Western Sydney and Wentworth Health Areas which serve a local population of about one million. The population is younger than average and of diverse social and ethnic background, including many immigrant groups and the Daruk Aboriginal community.
Westmead Hospital is 26 km west of the Sydney central business district, situated on the edge of Parramatta Park.
Getting there
Frequent commuter and suburban trains link the University (Redfern Station) with Westmead Hospital (Westmead Station - 30 minute journey), while the M4 Motorway provides a motor link between the various teaching sites.
Student facilities
Western Clinical School's facilities and philosophy have always fostered a long and strong commitment to teaching, research and patient care. Ever since the establishment of the Western Clinical School, it has been a place of growth, innovation and enthusiasm. 'Western' has the great advantage of two teaching hospitals with quite different orientation and philosophies; both are community tertiary referral hospitals.
Low cost live-in accommodation is available for students.
Our strengths
Westmead Hospital is one of the largest teaching conglomerates and is located in the largest Health Care Campus in the Southern Hemisphere. Westmead provides mostly adult medical services. Paediatric teaching is carried out at the Children's Hospital at Westmead next door linked to Westmead Hospital by an enclosed walkway. This enables students to take advantage of a wide range of medical and surgical problems occurring in all age groups.
