School of Rural Health

Location

The School of Rural Health has campuses in the NSW regional centres of Dubbo and Orange.

Dubbo is a comfortable 5.5 hour drive from Sydney, or a convenient 1 hour plane trip. Situated on the banks of the Macquarie River at the junction of three highways, it is home to around 40,000 people.

Orange is 3.5 hours drive of Sydney and 3 hours north-west of Canberra. It has a population of 38,000 and has become a popular ‘foodie’ destination.

Getting there

Driving west from Sydney along the Great Western Highway will get you to Orange in around 3.5 hours and Dubbo in 5.5 hours.

Both cities are also easily reached from Sydney by daily train and plane services.

Student facilities

Purpose-built lecture theatres, tutorial rooms, clinical skills and computer labs are provided at both campuses. The School is especially well-equipped with videoconferencing and other IT resources that enable us to effectively blend local teaching with teaching from metropolitan clinical schools.

On-campus student accommodation is a mixture of fully furnished, self-catering units and houses that cater for singles, couples and families. Most of the accommodation has been purpose-built and it is all comfortable and secure.

Our small campuses mean that you are never more than a 5 minute walk from the classroom or hospital.

Our strengths

Both campuses offer all the required Stage 3 curriculum blocks and their assessment. Students in Dubbo and Orange complete the same curriculum as their Sydney-based classmates, within a rural context. They can expect:

  • small student-teacher ratios
  • easy access to a broad range of clinical experience
  • enhanced skills acquisition
  • less commuting
  • well-equipped learning & living facilities
  • friendly country communities
