Initially students receive their training at either RNSH, Manly Hospital (in Manly) or Hornsby Ku-Ring-Gai Hospital (in Hornsby), however the clinical school itself comprises a total of 17 Sydney hospitals and 4 affiliated rural hospitals. These include:
- Royal North Shore Hospital (RNSH)
- Manly Hospital (in Manly)
- Hornsby Ku-Ring-Gai Hospital
- Mona Vale Hospital
- Mater Misericordiae Hospital
- Ryde Hospital and
- Sydney Adventist Hospital
To name a few. The rural hospitals include:
- Lismore Base Hospital
- Murwillumbah Hospital
- Grafton Hospital
Getting there
RNSH has the advantage of being easily accessible by either train or car.
St Leonards train station is literally over the road from the hospital (a 2 minute walk)! From Central station, St Leonards is only a 15 minute train ride away.
If you prefer driving, the hospital is located directly between two of Sydney's major roads, the Pacific Highway & the Gore Hill Freeway (both of which allow access to the hospital).
One thing to keep in mind is that both traffic & trains can become congested especially around peak hour, so it's best to give yourself plenty of travel time until you get used to things.
Student facilities
The facilities that students get access to at RNSH are fantastic. The ground floor of the Kolling Building (Level 4) includes The Douglas Piper Library where light airy desk areas, wireless access to University of Sydney and Area Health Service networks, meeting rooms and printing and photocopy facilities make it a joy in which to study and research. Our strengths
The benefit of Northern Clinical School is that it allows students from the very beginning of their training to access both the large hospital setting & also community based hospitals such as Manly & Hornsby Ku-Ring-Gai Hospitals. This enables the student to get full exposure to the spectrum of medicine available throughout hospitals in and around Sydney. With the dedication of the staff & the enthusiasm of the tutors, Northern Clinical School provides organised, well structured & finely tuned sessions for its students making it one of the best in medical education.
