The teaching of Pathology began in 1883. The Discipline is responsible for teaching Pathology to students in Medicine, Dentistry, Science and Medical Science. Research is well served by special units covering Neuropathology, Immunopathology, Immunobiology, Muscle Physiology, Cardiovascular Disease and Inflammation.
Facilities
The Discipline has a number of specialised research laboratories for tissue culture, biochemical analysis, molecular biology, flow cytometry, muscle and nerve studies, morphometry and molecular analysis. Two tissue banks are located in the Discipline.

- Cell membrane architectural changes in activating cells of the immune system
