Introduction to the Faculty of Medicine

The Faculty of Medicine at the University of Sydney is Australia's oldest and largest medical faculty undertaking teaching and research in health and medicine of international standing.

The Faculty of Medicine is part of the University's Faculties of Health, the largest and most comprehensive grouping of health and medical education research in the Asia Pacific region.

The first medical faculty in the country, the Faculty of Medicine has an annual budget in excess of $200M. It is a complex and geographically dispersed organisation extending from the Sydney metropolitan area to Lismore and the northern rivers region in the far north of New South Wales and Dubbo and Broken Hill in the west of the state. The Faculty's activities, both in teaching and research - span the spectrum from the medical sciences through to clinical medicine, public health and medical education. A wide range of research units and centres is asociated with the Faculty. Members of the Faculty make a major contribution to the health of the population through the delivery of clinical care in the teaching hospitals assiciated with the Faculty. Through the Faculty's clinical schools more than 50 hospitals and numerous other health care delivery sites including general practices throughout NSW and the Australian Capital Territory have formal links with the Faculty and provide teaching facilities for students of its Medical Program and facilities for research.

All this makes the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Sydney an outstanding environment in which to undertake study and research.
