Introduction to Sydney Medical School

Sydney Medical School at the University of Sydney is Australia's oldest and largest medical school undertaking teaching and research in health and medicine of international standing.

Sydney Medical School is part of the University's Faculties of Health, the largest and most comprehensive grouping of health and medical education and research in the Asia Pacific region.

The first medical school in the country, Sydney Medical School has an annual budget in excess of $250M. It is a complex and geographically dispersed organisation extending from the Sydney metropolitan area to Lismore and the northern rivers region in the far north of New South Wales and Dubbo and Broken Hill in the west of the state. The Medical School's activities, both in teaching and research - span the spectrum from the medical sciences through to clinical medicine, public health and medical education. A wide range of research units and centres is associated with the Medical School. Members of the Medical School make a major contribution to the health of the population through the delivery of clinical care in the teaching hospitals associated with the Medical School. Through the Medical School's clinical schools more than 50 hospitals and numerous other health care delivery sites, including general practices throughout NSW and the Australian Capital Territory, have formal links with the Medical School and provide teaching facilities for students of its Medical Program and facilities for research.

All this makes Sydney Medical School an outstanding environment in which to undertake study and research.
