Office of Medical Education (OME)
The Office of Medical Education was established in 2007 as a result of the Curriculum Review. The Office is responsible for the delivery, management and evaluation of the Sydney Medical School Medical Program, in particular, the implementation of the review recommendations and the coordination of a standard curriculum in consultation with the University of Sydney clinical schools located at several sites.
Our major role is the development and support of our medical curriculum, and through consultancies, to other educational providers. We also facilitate the design, implementation and continuous improvement of the quality of our assessment processes; evaluate the effectiveness of our teaching; undertake research related to our Program; and provide professional development opportunities to those who teach within Sydney Medical School or externally.
Our aims relating to our Medical Program are to:
- lead the Medical School's curriculum design, development and evaluation;
- support staff in the development of innovative teaching programs;
- assist key experts and staff in the development of new methods of assessment;
- evaluate current and developing teaching programs;
- offer staff development programs to enhance teaching skills;
- act as a focal point for liaison with key stakeholders in medical education and research;
- liaise with area health services, research institutes and other relevant bodies;
- and conduct research in learning and teaching in collaboration with Medical School staff.

Office of Postgraduate Medical Education (OPME)
OPME is the Medical School's major source of academic expertise in relation to educational research, curriculum design and review, professional development, student assessment and program evaluation. It is an established leader in the development of innovative and flexible educational programs in health and medicine delivering projects to government departments, professional organisations and Faculties within the University of Sydney.
The core goals of OPME are to promote excellence in postgraduate teaching and learning across health and medicine, to further enhance the Medical School's reputation as a leader in educational research, development and practice and to foster the links between the health workforce and the University’s graduate and postgraduate programs.
OPME brings together extensive experience and skills across health education, project management and information technology to meet the existing and growing demand for relevant flexible, interactive programs for busy health professionals.
